In 2020, the Gerrit Rietveld Academie received a Grant from the Getty Foundation as part of the ‘Keeping it Modern’ programme to draw up a CMP, a Conservation Management Plan, for its academy building designed by Gerrit Rietveld. The CMP is a management plan for the conservation of the building, central to its significance. It is an integrated collaborative project, the result of internal and external research into Rietveld's 1966 creation.

The second part focuses on the relationship between the building and education. It examines the background to the building's development and use and provides key input for future developments.
The third and final part concerns the preservation and sustainability of the building and is specifically an investigation into the possibilities of energy-efficiently improving the curtain wall and the climate control systems.
